If you want working exchange email on 4.4 do this (root required)
1) Download the above file, unzip, and copy the two apk's to your phone
2) Use root explorer to navigate to /system/app
3) Rename "Exchange2.apk" to "Exchange2_old.apk" (you'll need to rename this file back to "Exchange2.apk" to accept an OTA)
4) Rename Email.apk to "Email_old.apk" (you'll need to rename this file back to "Email.apk" to accept an OTA)
5) Paste the two apk's you downloaded into the /system/app folder
6) (optional) If you don't want 2 email services running go into Settings>Apps>All and select then Disable "Email" (version 4.4-5) and "Exchange Services" (version 4.4-5)
7) Reboot your phone
Now you can set up Exchange service without it failing to download new messages or draining your battery.
