Exchange Server Battery Drain topic

Short version: does anyone had a mod or guide on how to swap out the Samsung exchange system for stock android exchange? I upgraded to a ROM that I like but get bad battery drain whenever I use Samsung's exchange (ROM does not have option to use stock android email). Preferably a version that works with TW 4.3 ML1 ROMS

Long Version:

I have battled battery drain related to an exchange server for some time now. I am pretty sure my exchange provider (Apptix) is partially at fault, since this started when they migrated us to a new server, but their help team is rather abyssmal and they are not able to pinpoint any issue on their end, claiming a lack of complaints.

I say partially at fault because I am able to use a ROM that has the stock android exchange (rather than Samsung exchange) and that works fine, as does my Nexus 7 and iPad, and everyone else's iOS and Motorola Droid devices. So I had a couple of theories:

1. Somehow, my exchange provider installed some extra security that is designed to recognize Samsung devices and try to work with KNOX or the old SAFE system to implement extra security, but on a ROM'd and Rooted device, those components are missing and exchange services just run in a loop.

2. The stock Samsung exchange services have some memory issue, where they will continuously sync because they run out of memory

3. The stock Samsung exchange services do not deal well with unread messages (I notice that it will not sync read/unread in real time until I launch the email app, whereas the stock android one will not sync read/unread until either I launch the app or a new email comes in.

I theorized about #2 and #3 because my problem seems to get much better if I use a ROM where the security settings of the exchange services have been removed. Drain is still there, and I think it may coincide with periods that I have unread emails, but I am not sure. Data usage is also much lower (Samsung exchange with security would use up to 10MB or more per hour), but not as low as when I use a stock android exchange services. Also, it appears that samsung android services (without security) is keeping the phone awake without actually using the CPU - so perhaps it keeps awake if there is a unread notification? Below are my battery stats.

So for those of you that read the long version - has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone had any luck figuring it out? And yes, I have tried removing and adding back the exchange account, removing the account through OWA. And to pre-empt the inevitable "use third party" - I like having an integrated exchange solution, where I can see calendar next to my gmail calendars.

Q: How to exchange kernel from 2.6 to 3 ? topic

Hi everybody,
a lot of people over here in Germany are using a new car navigation system DSR-N 270 / 370 running 4.0x with old 2.6 kernel.
Here is the link, site is only available in german language unfortunately:

http://www.pearl.de/a-PX8324-5446.shtml

We would like to use DAB software but this only runs under 3.X kernel.
Can anybody out there help to upgrade the 2.6 kernel to 3.0 ?
2.6 kernel for this navigation system is available as source from the supplier:

ftp://ftp.pearl.de/treiber/PX8324_12_134138.rar

Any help would be really appreciated as Android now also enters
car navigation market !

Regards

Joachim

[Q] Before I activate VZN GN2? OTA, Teather, Exchange topic

Hi all,

I still have unlimited data and I'd like to make the most of it, so I'm hoping to find out if/how about a few things before I activate my VZN GN2

* Can I block ota update to prevent new limitations?

* Can I sync with MS Exchange server without buying the corporate data?

* Tethering options?... I'd love to drop my cable ISP.

I'd really love to avoid rooting if I possible, so I'm asking for stock options and apps. If I need to root just say so. I can dig around for mods myself... don't want to waste anyone's time. (Off the shelf solutions may be helpful to other noobs)

Thanks for the good work

Why is it that some roms (ViperOne) seem to have no problem with KitKat and Exchange, while others do?

Faulty Battery Exchange topic

I've diagnosed that I have a faulty battery the sides are noticeable bulging.

I've rooted my phone and flash custom recovery etc. I can unroot, reset the flash counter, and revert to stock ROM.

However I can't reset the KNOX counter as it's apparently an "eFUSE".

I took my phone to a Samsung Repair Centre today after doing all of above, I showed them my battery but apparently they needed to see the phone as well apparently to login with Samsung or something to verify they'd pay them for the replacement battery.

I chicken'd out for fear of them detecting the KNOX counter and ended up buying a knock off Samsung Battery for £14.99 of a merchant.

Does anyone know of a way to possibly just send the battery to Samsung and get them to send a replacement (without the phone)?

Also out of interest if a service centre detects custom software on the device of any kind can they refuse to give it back to you?

Thanks in advance,

[Q] no "Exchange" option in my stock email app (4.4.2) unlocked GSM version topic

Dear all:

I need to use exchange to sync with my company's calendar.

I have noticed that other Nexus 5 has an "Exchange" option when one goes to Setting --> Accounts --> Add an Account --> Corporate
illustrated by this link:
http://support.sprint.com/support/tu...us_5/50282-118
(page 4 out of 8)

But my Nexus 5, which is also a stock ROM with no modification, doesn't even have this "Exchange option"
(see attached)

I desperately need that exchange option. How to get it? Is there an stock email app that I can download / flash?

My phone is rooted with no custom recovery installed. Can I get away without a custom recovery?

Thanks in advance

Harv

Incoming calls name of contact from Exchange Server not showing topic

Hi all,

I'm syncing my samsung galaxy s4 with a exchange server for email, calender and contacts. This is working perfectly. Only when colleague is calling me i see only this telephone number and not his/her name. I can search for this colleague and add him in my local contact list but i don't wanna do it for all my colleagues.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Thanks!

[Q] restore to factory before exchange? topic

i'm having screen issues (phone keep face dialing even though screen is off). i think i need a replacement device. i'm with verizon.

i am rooted, have cwr installed, and have a debloated version of 12b installed.

do i need to go through the hassle of putting the phone back into its factory state before taking it in for replacement, or do they not really care about that anymore and i can just take it in as-is?

thanks for the info!

4.4.2 Exchange Email APK's topic

Probably old news but I couldn't find it on this Moto X forum:

http://goo.gl/ZtLZdN

If you want working exchange email on 4.4 do this (root required)

1) Download the above file, unzip, and copy the two apk's to your phone
2) Use root explorer to navigate to /system/app
3) Rename "Exchange2.apk" to "Exchange2_old.apk" (you'll need to rename this file back to "Exchange2.apk" to accept an OTA)
4) Rename Email.apk to "Email_old.apk" (you'll need to rename this file back to "Email.apk" to accept an OTA)
5) Paste the two apk's you downloaded into the /system/app folder
6) (optional) If you don't want 2 email services running go into Settings>Apps>All and select then Disable "Email" (version 4.4-5) and "Exchange Services" (version 4.4-5)
7) Reboot your phone

Now you can set up Exchange service without it failing to download new messages or draining your battery.

[Q] Lotus Notes through Exchange on Android topic

I've got a Nexus 5 with Android 4.4.

My work is running Lotus Notes for email. The desktop software is bad enough, but the Lotus Traveler app on android is pure garbage.

Apparently the traveler server works with standard ActiveSync. I know this because people at my office have their email set up on their iPhones/iPads through ActiveSync. I can actually add my Lotus account onto my phone through the default email app using the Exchange setup. Everything seemed to work as it should at first. The app asked me to set a pin for my phone, which I did. The problem is that after a couple minutes I get a prompt saying my device pin has expired and all my Lotus account data will be deleted unless I reset my pin. This happens every few minutes even if I keep resetting my pin.

Anyone know of anyway around this? At the moment I'm forwarding all my work emails to my gmail account so that I can read them on my phone, but I can only reply from my gmail address, so it isn't ideal.

Thanks
