Stylus / S-Pen confusion topic

I'm looking for a full sized stylus without any offset issue and have been following the other thread with interest but no-one yet seems to have found something which ticks all the boxes. I'm also a little confused about a couple of things and would appreciate some help. My Q's are:

• Is the S-Pen powered and therefore charged by the tablet? I've got both the original and 2014 Note 10.1's and the stylus from the original works on the 2014 no problem and without offset. The thing is the battery is completely flat on the original as it's not been used for some time yet the stylus still works and I'm pretty sure it can't have any charge left in it so how is it then working?
  
  The driver behind this is that I was looking to get a stylus holder for the 2014 stylus but can't find one so thought I'd get an original stylus/holder to use with the 2014 but the issue being I wouldn't be able to keep it charged as the original note is about to be sold.
  
  
  


• I've read that the Surface Pro stylus works on the 2014 without much, if any offset. Looking around I found this stylus...
