Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx Root? topic

I'm looking into purchasing a used RAZR Maxx, I would've already gotten it but I'm hooked on rooting my devices. My father has an xt926 (Maxx HD) and he has to be at a certain stock version in order to root it. I was wondering if the xt912 has to be at a certain stock version in order to root it?
