[Q] Weird screen problem (probably in hardware) topic

Hello everyone,

When I was browsing my fb today I stumbled upon this photo of a Galaxy S II plus that has a kind of broken screen. As you can see what it should display is shifted to the left. This guy isn't really a techy and has no idea of custom roms etc. Now I'm wondering is this something in the software? Because I can buy it very cheap from him, and if I only have to install CM I would have a very cheap good working phone :)

If it's something in the hardware is it solved by replacing the screen? (since this also includes some other things)

I did a bit of research but didn't find someone with the same problem, if you have seen a thread about this before please give me a link ;)
