[Q] Which Model topic

No doubt this is a question that has already been asked and answered. However, since I can't find it, I'm forced to bring this up one more time. I'm getting ready to shop for a new smartphone, and I am trying to choose between the S4 and the S5. It is my intent to get an unlocked phone, and I use primarily AT&T's networks. There are multiple variants of each of these phones out there, some of which will work for 4g LTE in the US on AT&T's networks, and some which will not. So, my first question is which models, or variants, of each of these devices do I want to consider? My second question is one of is it worth it to pay the premium for the S5 over the S4. I would have thought my timing was such that prices on the S4 would be dropping around now, just like they did on the S3 when the S4 came out. But I'm not seeing much in the way of a reduction in prices. If it's less than 0 premium for the S5, I guess I might as well bite the bullet. So, any direction or help will be greatly appreciated.

Three UK Model - Flash to stock? topic

My Three model comes unlocked but is already behind when it comes to firmware. It also only has the APNs for Three (so I have to manually input for any other SIM I insert) and there's an annoying splash screen.

I'm not very well-read when it comes to flashing HTC devices but am I right in thinking that there is no way to flash stock firmware without S-off and bootloader unlock? One good thing about even the Sony handsets is that you can flash stock firmware without going through hell.

If I'm wrong could someone point me in the right direction. Not the end of the world if I can't 'stockify' but it would be nice :)

Swap motherboard 2 different S3 model topic

Hi,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S III i747 [http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att]. I tried to repair it but the glue I used to previously repair the glass was too strong and the digitizer came with it... Trying to power it and all I see is green light a part of the screen and nothing but the phone vibrate on start-up. I think the motherboard is still good.

I looked for local classified for broken screen (or used S3) but so far I wasn`t able to grab one and some times the seller are asking very high price (120$) for a phone I risk to break. I was thinking just buying a working one in good condition but that`s 200$. The idea is to swap the motherboard and sell the motherboard un-used.

I decided to check on ebay There are a lot of cheap bad esn phone on ebay with excellent screen condition but these are sprint phones (SPH-L710).

I wonder if I could still swap the motherboard and have a roger i747 phone? That would be the cheapest and easiest option for me if that`s the case.

[Q] Installing a ROM changed my model number? topic

So I was using my SGH I317, and when I installed this ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2675066
It changed my SGH I317 into a GT-N7105.

On the back of my phone it still has SGH I317, so can I still install SGH-I317 ROMS, or do I have to install GT-N7105 ROMS?

Why would Google even use a 16GB model topic

Why you think google didn't put a facts slot within the Nexus 5? and the reason why didn't they execute a cool presentation from it like Samsung would the Be aware 3? Don't you believe times get changed much with folks uploaded films etc... onto their mobile phones that principle internal storage must be 64GB.

[Q] Samsung Perks Wifi v. (Verizon) LTE model topic

I have seen some mention in a couple threads here, but nothing definitive. Is there any difference in the Samsung Perks offered for the Wifi versus LTE (specifically Verizon) models? Can anyone who has received the Verizon model chime in with their experience with what perks are offered, or even a shot of the protective screen film that lists them off?
Much obliged.

[Q] Model Number Change after root topic

Hello and sorry for any noobieness :)

I recently rooted my note pro 12.2 using chainfires auto-root method However to my surprise it seems like the model number has changed to sm-t900 from sm-p900. I am not 100% of this but i am sure that sm-p900 shows up on the loading screen and the s-pen worked before the root. As the device is now, the s-pen is completely nonfunctional and screen rotation is stuck. (has to be changed by opening an app the has only one screen rotation like flappy birds.) The following is a list of what Ive tried to do to fix solved this issue starting from the first root. Also i tripled checked and the files i used had sm-p900 not sm-t900

1. Attempted to root device but was stuck on cache.img
2. After changing usbs several times and restarting computer rooting was successful.
3. S pen and screen rotation stopped working
4. rerooted device via superSu app
5. Used recovery image p900 model number
6. Device still had S pen/rotation problems.
7. rerooted with no problems
8. noticed model number was sm-t900(tab pro 12.2)

Thank you for reading and any help you can give me and i am sorry if this has been asked before.(i searched and only found threads that didnt answer my question)

[Q] Corrupt serial number and model ID topic

So I can't seem to find a solution to my specific issue. A little background first. I was on Modaco switch beta 13 and decided I'd move on to something else because 1) hadn't been an update for quite a while and 2) I really didn't switch back to Sense except when I wanted to play around with Zoe. I restarted into CWM recovery and tried to flash CM 11. It gave me an error and I realized I was downlevel on CWM recovery. I tried to flash an updated CWM and now only have access to fastboot. When I try to boot to recovery it gives me the HTC splashscreen and hangs. I tried TWRP, CWM, and stock with the same results.

Checking fastboot getvar I noticed some really strange entries. serialno and modelid were corrupt. Here is the output of fastboot getvar all

Code:

# fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.44.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4A.14.3250.13
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None
(bootloader) version-main: 1.29.1540.3
(bootloader) version-misc: UNKNOWN SHIP S-OFF
(bootloader) serialno: ߞXC
w\        `2#
(bootloader) imei: xxxxxxxx
(bootloader) meid: 00000000000000
(bootloader) product: m7_ul
(bootloader) platform: HBOOT-8064
(bootloader) modelid:
(bootloader) cidnum: BS_US001
(bootloader) battery-status: good
(bootloader) battery-voltage: 4222mV
(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: off
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
getvar:all FAILED (status read failed (Value too large for defined data type))
finished. total time: 5.063s

# fastboot getvar mid
mid:
finished. total time: 0.002s

# fastboot getvar serialno
serialno: ߞXC
w\        `2#
finished. total time: 0.002s

I read the following post to recover my serial number
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1724475

I don't believe I had the ENG hboot so I get the following:

Code:

fastboot oem writemid PN07120
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [  0.012s]
finished. total time: 0.012s

# fastboot oem writeserialno 1234567890
...
FAILED (status malformed (0 bytes))
finished. total time: 1.000s

I tried flashing the ENG hboot, but....

Code:

# fastboot flash zip ENG_hboot.zip
sending 'zip' (475 KB)...
OKAY [  0.242s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) zip header checking...
(bootloader) zip info parsing...
(bootloader) checking model ID...
FAILED (remote: 41 model id check fail)
finished. total time: 0.648s

Yep, catch 22. Corrupt model ID, so it won't flash.

Another interesting thing I noticed was the 2nd line on the display in fastboot

Code:

**** UNLOCKED ****
M7_UL UNKNOWN SHIP S-OFF RH
CID=BS_US001
HBOOT-1.44.0000
RADIO-4A.14.3250.13
OpenDSP-v26.120.274.0202
eMMC-boot
...

Anyway one of the messages in the forums said that once they resolved the model ID and serial number everything worked.

Unfortunately this is my main phone and I'd like to use it. Not very useful right now. Anyone have any ideas?

ZX803 model AllWinner chip 8" Android 4 capacitive screen car head unit topic

Hello everyone, I purchased this unit (VW submodel) few days ago. Picture attached.
it works great.
8"
1ghz cpu,
1gigs of ram,
4gigs of flash + microSD,
capacitive.

Does anybody have the unit with same chipset so we can exchange some info? For example, I can't find an entrance to hidden menu that was presented to me at first boot,
I don't know how to restart the unit, and I have a slight issue with car battery draining.

To be straight on topic, I have modified stock radio application to be more... ... presentable :) It was terrible, colors were out of this world :)
This unit came rooted. So I could easily replace the stock radio app.
If somebody needs it just let me know.
Now it looks like this:

Thanks!

[Q] CWM Recovery doesn't recognize device model topic

I just rooted my Galaxy S2 using Odin and the kernel named: speedmod-kernel-s2-jb-k5-3-Odin

Root worked just fine.

Then I installed CWM via Google Play. Rebooted in Recovery mode, and looked for a custom ROM to install. The problem is when I select the zip file to be installed, CWM will say something like:

Can't install this ROM. This rom is for galaxys2 i9100 ..... This is a ' '.

The blank space between the colons should show the mobile model name. It is emtpy. Just as if CWM was missing some string, which the program checks with the ROM before starting the install.

Got completely no idea on what's wrong.

May I try to flash another kernel incluiding a CWM? Can I do that following just the same steps I did to root the phone, but with a different kernel? Any idea on what's gone wrong here?

Thanks in advance for your help.

EDIT: I am usint JB 4.1.2, I followed this guide to root it: (can't publish full link): wccftech.com/guide-root-xwlsn-android-412-jelly-bean-galaxy-s2-i9100/

Samsung Verizon Display Model 10.1 Tablet topic

I've recently got a Samsung Note 10.1 2014 and it looks like it's a display model for Verizon. Most things seems to work correctly although there are a few bugs so I was going to try to flash a stock rom instead of the display version. I'm not sure if I will cause any problems as I was unable to root with the Odin3 auto root methods.

Additionally, this device seems to have some additional debugging features enabled that may be of use to some in this community.

Build number is "lt03ltevze-eng 4.3 JSS15J P605VVREAMK1 test-keys"
The hardware version is P605V.01
