Android App For Testing Linux Commands topic

I've started to really enjoy learning Linux. Can you guys recommend a good app that tests my terminal knowledge?

I've seen this one. What else is there?

[Q] Howto gain root with Linux? topic

Hi,
I'm looking forward to getting my Z1 tomorrow, and being used to having root on my device (ever since I jailbroke my iPhone 3GS) I'd like to get it here as well.

After a bit of reading I got the impression it's rather difficult compared to my previous phone - at least when I'm not having access to a windows computer.
So far I found that Flashtool will be able to unlock my bootloader - but will that be enough to flash SuperSU.zip in order to gain root?

Or is there some other way I overlooked so far? Please help an Xperia noob to make the first steps safely :D

I appreciate all advice, links, ...

Verizon GS4 & Linux MTP topic

Has anyone been able to get the Verizon Galaxy S4 to mount via MTP in Linux? So far I've tried libmtp-1.1.7 & mtpfs-1.1 as well the latest GIT version of both, the latest GIT of go-mtpfs, and finally version 0.4 of jmtpfs and so far nothing seems to work. Likewise the SG Mass Storage Enabler doesn't work for the Verizon GS4 so I'm at a loss.

I realize I can transfer over other methods like WiFi, but the throughput over WiFi seems fairly slow.

[Q] Linux or Current Android Version on DX 2? topic

I have an old DX2 that no longer has the VZW carrier plan as I switched to Nexus 5. I have returned the DX2 to factory image (now GB), and am curious about using it as a Wifi only portable device, retaining touchscreen capabilities as there is no hard keyboard.

What is the latest functional true image ROM that can be successfully flashed to it (i.e., Honeycomb, ICS, JB, etc.), and not being a look-alike?

Has anyone successfully flashed a true Linux image to a DX2 (that has touchscreen support), and not a "live" version? In other words wiping the factory image for Linux?

[Q] Linux on S4 possible? even with broken display? topic

Hi,

unfortunately my s4 kissed the ground and the display is broken. Nothing is displayed. The device is encrypted, cm10.2 is installed.

Now I have the question if it is possible to use broken the s4 for something else, maybe a little linux server for hosting owncloud.

Here my questions:

1. Is it possible to install an arm linux on the i9505?

2. If so, is it even possible with a broken display?

3. If so, will it be possible to use the usb port to convert it to an ethernet port?

Regards,
butch

[Q] Android Linux external WiFi Dongle using OTG cable topic

Hi,
Recently I've wanted to see if its possible to use aircrack-ng with android. The closest I've come is installing Kali Linux on my SGS3 with Complete Linux Installer. Unfortunately, my integrated wifi on my S3 is not supported for monitor mode so I bought a TP-Link TL-WN722N, but when i connect the TP-Link with an OTG cable to my phone, the interface doesn't show up (in Kali Linux). I used dmesg to determine if it was detected, and it is! I think the driver is not loaded. I've done some research, i need the ath9k or ath9k_htc driver, I'm not sure. But after (a lot) of Google-ing, I still can't find how to install the WN722N on my Kali Linux. And now I'm (sorta) desperate.
Has anyone done something similar once or knows what to do next? I'm a CS student, so I know my way around the Linux enviroment, but I have no experience in kernel modification nor modprobe things. So if it includes any of those things, could you be so kind to include a tutorial for noobs? :)
(srry for the long post)
