(I just want to state im no divoluper nor do I claim responsibility to what you do to your computer/devices. i'm a tinkerer, a jack of all trades, and a master of none. i'm just here trying to help others where we keep failing! Tinker On!)
So I found a driver for Windows 8.1 64bit that FINALLY after a day of messing with it, was successfully able to update the driver for the fastboot portion in Device Manger for the Nvidia Shield. I'll try to keep it short and sweet. I have a Lenovo Y500 Dual GT650 SLI laptop and for the LIFE of me, no matter what I tried it didnt work. this is finally the fix for ME at least...my computer recognizes fastboot on both 3.0 and 2.0 USB ports (;
Step 1 - With Shield plugged in, Uninstall any previous drivers for adbfastboot (universal adb) Via Device Manager - (Start+E) then click Manage at the top, then Device Manager once computer management is open.
Step 2 - Unplug Shield, then move your mouse to the bottom right of the screen so the side panel pops up. Click ("Settings"), then ("Change PC Settings"), ("Update and Recovery"), ("Recovery"), ("Advance Startup Restart now"), ("Troubleshoot"), ("Advanced Options"), (Startup Settings"). then ("Restart"). Once your computer restarts you should see a list of options, you want to click number 7, Disable Signature Enforcement.
Step 3 - Once your computer starts back up, download and extract the FOLDER from this ZIP to your DESKTOP http://www.mediafire.com/download/i3...vers_Win81.zip
Step 4 - Open Device Manager again, and Plug in your shield. Wait for the drivers to install like normal. if you see any exclamation points, right click the device, hit ("Update Driver Software"), then ("Browse my computer for updated driver software"), then ("Browse") then click "Desktop" and the ADB Driver folder then click next and it should pop up RED saying Install or Not install. you obviously want to install...Click next and you should be good! Now to check fastboot! LEAVE DEVICE MANAGER OPEN!
Step 5 - Unplug and Turn off your shield and hold the back/home buttons and press the Nvidia key, this will put you into fastboot. Once your IN fastboot plug your shield back into your pc. it should install the WRONG driver for fastboot and should show an Exclamation point again, just follow step 4 again and it should update it to the correct driver then Wallah! You should be able to use Hexitnow's Toolkit "Shield Ram" Flawlessly! http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2661067
Hopefully this works for you guys, it worked for me twice, I uninstalled everything and did it again and she booted into fastboot using his tool and then rebooted once in fastboot. I was then able to Unlock the Bootloader, install CWM and Root Fine Just fine!
