[Q] S3 (i9300) Encryption Failed topic

Hi guys,
My friend gave me her S3 to fix because there was a problem with it. She said that she was on YouTube when it froze, she took the battery out and when it turned back on, a message came up saying "Encryption Failed. Unable to complete encryption due to interruption. Perform factory data reset (erasing all your data) before use....." There's a button that says "Reset Device" but when I press it, it doesn't do anything. She has NOT rooted her device or tampered with it at all, nor has she tried to encrypt her data, so this is quite unusual. I tried to put it into Recovery Mode so I could perform a factory reset by holding power, Vol Up and Home. As I hold these buttons, a message pops up at the bottom of the screen saying "Device storage is full. Delete some items", although my friend says that she had recently factory reset her phone and there isn't much stuff on her phone. The phone then restarts as it should. It shows the android with the spinning shape thing in his stomach. Then it stops and the phone restarts again back to the "Encryption Failed" screen. I have tried many times to get into Recovery Mode but it wont work. I researched online and found that others say that they also cannot access stock recovery but can access TWRP and CWM. I can get into Download Mode, so it thought that maybe I could try to install one of the two recovery modes. I first tried to root the device using Odin3, however, it keeps failing.

This is what it says:

<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..

I really don't know what to do and would appreciate it very much if someone could help me. Thanks in advance :)

[Q] Completely removing encryption on SD? topic

So when I joined my phone to the corporate network, it insisted on (amongst other things), encrypting the SD card. After some annoyance with that, pins etc, I decided to revert back. I successfully removed the accounts etc and unchecked the encrypted SD card option.

However, when I did so, it said something about only applying going forward and I still keep getting asked for the pin to decrypt the SD card. So it seems that stuff is still decrypted on there? I have done some searching but have had little luck finding any definitive answers, most seem to be related to problems with people losing whatever key to decrypt items which is obviously not the case here since once I enter the pin, I can access items with no problem

So what's the deal? Do I have to save everything off and reformat the SD card to get back to normal? Seems kind-of wonky to me but that's Android, I guess.

Oh, I have tried reencrypting and unencrypting the SD card again and the Android version is 4.1.2 if that's any help.

Can't escape encryption even after flashing stock with Odin topic

Hi,

I have a galaxy note 3 from Ireland, and I wanted to root it so I followed the instructions I found online. However, when it booted back in after ODIN it still askd me for the encryption pin. If I entered it the phone screen just went black.

So I downloaded the firmware and flashed that with ODIN, and even though it seems to flash successfully it still prompts me for the encrpytion pin. I know the pin, but it just goes to a blank screen.

Can anyone help me with this? I don't care if I lose my files, I just want to get the phone working again!

Thanks.

[Q] Encryption + root? topic

Hi all-
Is it possible to run your phone with encryption turned on for the flash and sdcard, and still be able to have root and use recoveries like TWRP?

Thanks!

Encryption topic

Has anyone successfully encrypted a LGOG with a custom rom?
I tried months ago with CM 10.2, it would encrypt but would not accept my pin after reboot.

Now I tried with CM 11, same situation. Encrypts then I cannot get back into my phone because it will not accept the pin.
Thanks,

Encryption Help, Next Step? topic

So i picked up my old S2 yesterday because i was reading about android encryption and thought i could use that to my advantage, well that wasn't the case :(. I was running ReCaulked Jellybean when i started my encryption and when it turned on i couldn't get the keyboard to pop up so i couldnt enter the password. I used odin to flash back to el29 and got root then i re-flashed a different rom and once it loaded up i got the encryption password screen again, this time i could enter my password but for some reason it didn't work. Right now i flashed back to stock rooted el29 and wondering where i should go from here? Do flash a stock JB and try to remove encryption or should i flash another rom and see if it works?

[Q] Removing encryption topic

I am thinking of encrypting my HD+ (Settings>Security>Encrypt Tablet). As far as I can see this means simply that the /data partition will be encrypted and that CWM is afterwards not able to access this anymore (ie for backups or restores). I can do a complete backup by other means, but how would I be able to restore that?

Will the recovery still boot and will I then be able to format/wipe /data? Probably not because /data is not mounted!?

Also, what happens if I want to update the system, say to a newer version of CM?

Encryption (impact on unlock/rooted?) topic

Dev edition. Unlocked and rooted with TWRP.

Put the 4.4.2 exchange apk's in /system then found out my company requires full device encryption on phones without an SD card.

I want to stay stock. Only reason I rooted was to get the new exchange apks.

If I encrypt everything will I still be able to:

-Use adb to go back to stock recovery
-use root explorer to restore the stock system apps
-take an OTA while maintaining unlock and root?

Sorry for the dumb questions. Every phone I've used had an SD card and I never had to deal with this.
