[Q] Trying to recover formatted files in HTC ONE topic

I accidentally formatted the phone after unlocking the bootloader, files in it were all gone:crying: I tried a android data recovering software called Dr.fone, however it only recovered some useless data like app icons, whatsapp profile pics, facebook profile pics ect. Does this mean that all my photos taken were being overwritten and is gone forever?? Is there still a chance of getting them back? Please help.... thx

Hi everyone.
I have a Droid 4 (maserati) that suddenly died last week. I think the connection between the body and screen broke. But the device is still able to power on, reboot, and is recognizable from my Windows PC. I'd made a fairly recent nandroid backup, so I'm not in an emergency phase, but there are some files and photos I'd still like to try to recover from the broken device. Basically just files on the internal SD card. I was rooted, running stock Android on the latest OTA.

I'm not very experienced with ADB, but have started to give that a shot. I've tried various ls commands, but am stuck at a point where I get an error. Using a console (Console2), I ran ADB, then used this command:

I'm not sure if this error is because I didn't open shell with root access. But when doing that, I run into other trouble because I'm not familiar with the linux-style commands. Another small issue I've bumped into is that when running the ls command on large file trees, the results are cut off by the console's 9999 line buffer.

Can anyone help me find a file list. Or better yet, can someone just help me pull all the data from the entire SD card?

Hi there

My Xperai Mini Pro SK17i screen smashed and tried to change the screen but no luck.
When I connect it to the PC it just shows red light blinking once per second.

I have removed the 8GB sdcrad from it and I can see that there are viber backup in folder named VIBER on the sdcard root but it has only the images.
I have found another folder in SDCard\Android\DATA\com.viber.voip\CACHE
It has the following files (see attchment)
the biggest file is cache_vts_com.viber.voip.0 2.50MB and I guess it has the chat history.
I wonder if anyboy please tell me how to decrypt it?

How do I recover data from factory reset? topic

I copied all the important folders on my phone to my hhd or so I thought. I forgot to copy the DCMI folder, which contains all the photos taken.
I goofed, I know. But is there anyway to retrieve or recovery those photos?

Hi All, Am new this forum and in desperate need of some advice/help.

I have had my Samsung Galaxy s4 for a few months and had about 400 text messages and contacts stored on it. A few nights ago my darling baby boy who is all of 2 managed to successfully delete every last one of my photos and videos, but he deleted some important messages and contacts.

First of all I am just kicking myself for letting him play with my phone and secondly I am kicking myself for not backing them up on my computer.

Has anyone else lost messages, contacts and been able to recover them?

Whatsapp problem! I want to copy my chat history from my Samsung Galaxy S1 (2.3.6) to my new Nexus 5 (4.4.2).

I copied my entire Whatsapp folder to my Nexus 5 (/sdcard/Whatsapp/) and then installed Whatsapp. It asked me if I would like to recover my history chat messages. After clicking yes it started recovering but after 10-20 seconds it shuts down and an error message comes forward saying that Whatsapp had stopped working. I tried it multiple times.

When looking in my System Log file it says that it has something to do with SQLite. These are some lines in the Log file concerning Whatsapp:

1. "E/DefaultDatabaseErrorHandler (3784): Corruption reported by sqlite on database: /data/data/com.whatsapp/databasesmsgstore.db"

[Q] Recover app data topic

Hi.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (GT-P7320) with Android version 4.0.4 (not rooted).

Some weeks ago, the device freeze during use, and I have to restart by holding down the power button. It took much longer time to start up than usual, therefore I tried another restart (during startup). I probably shouldn't have done this, because this seems to trigger some kind of updating and afterwards a lots of things seems to be back at factory default (icons on start screen, wallpaper etc).

But the data on the internal SD card storage was intact, and all my apps was still installed. But most of the apps was unable to start. It gives a message "Unfortunately, <app name> has stopped". I have found out that if I reinstall the app through Play Store, the app starts working again, but all the settings and data for the app is lost.

I have only so far done this with the apps with no important data or settings, and tries to find out if there is a way to make a backup of the app data before reinstalling the app. I have tried Helium, and it seems to back up the data, but when restoring it's still the same error message. If I try Helium on one of the apps I have reinstalled, it seems to work fine to restore these (incl app data).

I'm no expert on Android but could it be some kind of permission problems? It's very annoying that Android doesn't have a better solution to make backup of app data. Some apps store the app data on the SD card, for example Bad Piggies, and for this app, I copy the app data folder to my computer, reinstalled, and copy the app data back and everything works fine. But the problem is that most apps doesn't store the data on the SD card.

I understand that by rooting the device I will maybe get access to the app data folders, but rooting is not an option.

So my question is, is there another way to get my app data back?

I have read a little about the way Helium works to get access to the app data without root by using some developer features. Would it be possible to get access to the app data on my device, by connecting it to my computer and then use some kind of developer access?

I have also looked at Samsung Kies, but as far as I understand it's not possible to use this to make backup of app data.

I would be glad for any help regarding this issue, and still if there is no way to get the data back, I would like to know.

I already tested few programs and it's work well but problem is with usb connection type, my pc detect device as htc one x+, not removable disk like any other phone.

1. Is it possible to connect htc one x+ as massive memory?
2. is any other way to recover data from this device?

i made/copy photos one month ago and just call/wirte/surf on device from this time so i hope that data is not overwritten.

[GUIDE] Recover Notification from Nandroid topic

Have you ever installed a new rom, but completely forgot which notification sound you were using? I have a nandroid backup of the old rom, but really don't want to completely restore the rom just to figure out which sound I was using. Android stores this in a database, and I'll show you how to access that database. In hindsight, it may just be easier to restore the nandroid backup. But, this is how to do it using a nandroid backup.

I'll be using Ubuntu 12.04 to do this. I believe it can be done with Windows as well, though the commands and programs will differ. Again, this assumes that you don't remember what the filename was. If you do, you can just skip to step 7.

1. Copy your nandroid backup files to your computer. Specifically, the "data.ext4.tar" and any "data.ext4.tar.a", "data.ext4.tar.b", etc. files.

2. The files need to be combined together. Use the command "cat data.ext4.tar data.ext4.tar.a data.ext4.tar.b > data-combined.tar" or similar for your filenames. It combines all of your data.ext4.tar files into one new file, data-combined.tar. This should give you a working tar file. I got this step from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2194171.

3. Extract the data-combined tar file. If you're a super-cool linux hacker, you probably know some terminal command to do this, like tar -randomLettersHere (xzvf?). I just right clicked the tar file and selected "Extract Here".

4. Navigate to "./data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db" and open the file. I didn't have any program to read SQL databases, so I let Ubuntu installed the recommended one for me, called "Sqliteman".

5. Using the list on the left, go under Tables-System. You should see the contents of that table, which look like an excel spreadsheet. The row (or tuple) we're looking for has the field "name" equal to "ringtone" or "notification_sound", depending on which file you're trying to locate. You can scroll through the rows and look for those rows, or you can enter an SQL command in the top box and hit the green arrow to run it and filter just the ones we want. Try this-

This pulls up all the rows where "name" is exactly equal to either of those strings. You can also search for anything that contains those strings by using this syntax-

If you're looking for your ringtone, try a query that just contains "ringtone", like this-

(That pulled up the actual file for me under the name "ringtone_CONSTANT_PATH")

If you're using a different rom than that I was (or a different device), you might need to tweak what you look for. Try changing the strings you search for. What we're looking for is for the entry where "value" equals something like "content://media/internal/audio/media/238". It might have the word 'internal' instead of 'external'. Note that number at the end, which is some kind of media ID number.

6. Now, open the SQL file "./data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases/external.db" or "./data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases/internal.db" depending on whether the value in step 5 had the word internal or external. Find the row where "_id" equals the number at the end of your "value" string in step 5. You can scroll through the "files" table, or enter a query like this-

The field "_data" should show the path for your file. For me, it was "/system/media/audio/notifications/S_Dew_drops.ogg". Oh, how I love you, Touchwiz...

7. Now you know where the file is. If your new rom doesn't have that ringtone/notification sound any more, you can probably retrieve it from two places. First, check the rom installation zip file (probably the easiest way) if it was an included sound. Open the installation zip file, and look in the path you found in step 6. The second way is to go through your Nandroid backup. Follow steps 1-3, but copy, combine, and extract your system.ext4.tar file(s). Again, just look in the same path from step 6, and it should be there. These paths are typically "/system/media/audio/notifications/" and "/system/media/audio/ringtones".

Enjoy your old, familiar sound again!

[Problem] How to recover Memo data from previous ROM? topic

I have Samsung Galaxy SII I-9100 with CyanogenMod now, but previously I had "brand" stock rom first, and then I install Jelly Bean clean version from Samsung, because my operator didn't release update.

Anyway - I had Jelly Bean and I wrote some Memos aka Notes in Memo app. I copied all files from Phone and from SD Card but I forget to do a normal backup.

I install new ROM based on KitKat without any Note or Memo app... I can't find my data with all memos in some cind of file.

Could you help me to get my Notes / Memos back via recovery or something???

It is shown as a device in "adb devices"
It is not shown in "fastboot devices"

Recover Photos? topic

Hi everyone,

First of all, thanks for taking the time to read this. Long story short...I accidentally deleted all my photos from the gallery with a eBook reader app called Moon+ Reader...don't ask. I'm really upset now, as I've lost all my photos and am wondering if there is any hope of recovering the files? I don't have root access, but the image names/data shows up on my PC when I link the Nexus 5 to my computer. The only thing is that when I try to open the files on my PC, I get "The file can't be read. It may be damaged." I'm guessing if it's still displayed on my PC, the files must be store somewhere within the internal storage? Or is there something like a recycle bin where the internal storage files that are deleted are temporarily stored until the space they used to take is overwritten with new data? I just feel so stupid right now! :( Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. I don't have root access. Would rooting my phone wipe my internal storage at this point?

Last week i flashed CM11 in my S3. Before doing it, i did a nandroid backup via recovery and backed up apps + system data via TBP.

I didn´t realize that i had all my photos saved in my internal memory, so i didn´t save them before wiping.

Since i did a Nandroid, my photos must be stored there, right?

My question is:

Is it possible to recover all the pictures from that backup, without having to flash it? Maybe via "mskip" Gs3 Toolkit?

RK3066 Boot loop in recover mode topic

hi i purchase China brand rk3066 label as UG007 II
here the story
i wanted to flash finless rom on the stick but i want to backup my stock rom thru CWM

firstly i tried to root, using petrus. install it. run the reboot apk. when i choose reboot to recovery, my tv reboot and after awhile it goes back to home with ALL my apk missing. it seems that chat comand has factory reset my tv stick.

secondly i tried this method from Geekbuying website
install moroboro, and tpsarky successfully and my stick now rooted. moroboro successfully detect the rk3066 chip.

thirdly i want to install cwm as i want to do nandroid backup from here and choose genericrk3066 as i am not sure whether i should use imito or ug007 as this china brand tv stick
so.. following the method rename the cwm to update.zip and placed in external usd lashand reboot.

upon reboot, it goes stright to recovery menu ( it takes quite sometime to reboot probably few minutes). but unfortunately i cant move my mouse up/down. the cursur stuck at reboot system. when click the mouse, the stick reboot.
no matter what i do the cursur wont move and i cant highlite the install from sd to flash rom.

so no i am stuck at recovery mode.

worse part is the reset hole/button seems doesnt do anything. presing it while in recovery mode does not do anything.
if i press the reset button and connect microOTG to notebook usb (tried many method combination microOTG/power/reset), my notbook cant find the driver. if i able to do it, i able to flash new rom. but unfortunately. but Moroboro still can detect the stick when i install it.

anyhelp can extend to me please. i have open up the stick at techbliss website says you can short two point to go into mask recovery mode but the circuit is different:crying:

the digitizer of my Atrix is broken and i want to go for warranty.
I rooted my Atrix months ago and installed WebtopMod. Now i unrooted it and just tried to restore/recover the Atrix. It shuts down and when it boots the error
"Failed to boot 2"
"Starting RSD mode"

appeared.

I can still boot the atrix normal and use it.
I never used unlocker and Custom Roms.

Furthermore I have the italian version. From "TIM" bought in germany.
"45.31.0.MB860.TIM.en.IT"

Please help me! At the moment the atrix isn´t useable due to the broken touchscreen...
