Can we get a guide for rooting? topic

I haven't used an HTC phone in over a year since the original M7 release. I'm used to Samsungs where all you need to do is open odin and flash a few files and boom you're done. I can unlock the bootloader no problem but I am confused on the steps to get twrp on it. Can I just follow a guide for the M7?

1. Turn On LockScreen Widget (KitKat only)

This is a short guide how to access the Motorola's service menu (Custom Quality Assurance).

1.Open your dialer

3.There are 2 options
-> Start CQA on menu mode
-> Start CQA in sequence mode
Menu mode is just a manual selection of given test
Sequence mode just runs all tests in a row.

Entering into the service menu will disable automatic display brightness, just enable it back in Settings/Display if you are using it.

In Sequence mode, the back key won't work, use Vol up/down to skip to the next test.

Samsung Galaxy Gear is an android based smartwatch that runs on android and is compatible with Samsung smatphones running android 4.3 jellybean like the galaxy S3, galaxy S4, galaxy Note 3, galaxy note 10.1 2014 Edition. In this tutorial I will tell some tips and tricks about Galaxy Gear android smart watch.

1. Send Text Message (SMS) using Galaxy Gear
In this trick you can send a text message sms with your Galaxy Gear without using your smartphone.

• In Galaxy Gear double press power/home key to open the S Voice feature. Blue mic icon indicates that S Voice is ready, but if the icon is not blue, touch the mic icon and say “Send message”.


• You can even give voice commands to your Galaxy Gear to perform a particular option like dialing a phone number, getting the time etc.


• After you say ‘Send message’, the Galaxy Gear will ask you the contact name to whom you want to send the SMS text message. Speak the name of the contact.


• If the contact has multiple phone numbers related to the contact you selected, you will be asked which number you wish to use. Say the label name assigned to the number. For example, "Work".


• When S Voice is ready start speaking your message.


• When you pause or stop speaking, S Voice will process the captured speech and add it to a message. The message will be displayed on the screen. If you are satisfied with the message, say "Yes." If not, say "No" to return to the dictation screen. If you return to the dictation screen, you can say "Add text," "Replace text," "Send," or "Cancel".


• The ‘Add text’ voice command will add text to your existing message. The Replace text will record a new message and discard the older one. Send voice command will send the message and ‘Cancel” will cancel the sending process.

2. Access Notifications of Galaxy Note3 In Samsung Galaxy Gear

• On your Galaxy Note 3 go to ‘Apps>Gear Manager>Settings’.


• In Notifications tap the slider to turn it ON.


• Now place a check mark against all the options for that you want a notification on your Galaxy Gear when your smartphone is on standby.


• When a notification arrives on your phone it can be viewed on Galaxy Gear.

3. Change Background Color in Samsung Galaxy Gear
You can change background color in your Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Follow the steps below.

• On the clock screen swipe towards right to access the ‘Settings’.


• On settings swipe the screen upwards to access the ‘Display’ settings.


• Go to ‘Display>Home bg Color’. Now swipe the screen left or right to see the available colors.


• Tap on desired color to apply it as background in Galaxy Gear.

4. Set Vibration Strength in Galaxy Gear
If you want to set vibration strength in Galaxy Gear then follow the steps below.

• On Galaxy Gear clock screen swipe to right (left to right) to access ‘Settings’.


• In settings options tap on ‘Sound’ option.


• Now swipe the screen upwards to access the ‘Vibration’ option.


• Tap on ‘Vibration’ and select type on vibration strong, medium or weak and click ‘OK’.

5. Find Mobile Device Using Galaxy Gear
With your Galaxy Gear you can locate your Samsung smart phone if you can’t find it nearby. This trick work only on Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. For this trick to work your Galaxy Gear should be connected to your phone. To find the mobile device follow the steps below.

• On Galaxy Gear Clock screen swipe from left to right to access the apps.


• Tap on ‘Apps’ and keep swiping towards left (right to left) until you see ‘Find my device’.


• Tap on ‘Start’ to remotely activate the sound and turn on the display of your Samsung smartphone.


• After locating the smartphone, tap on ‘Stop’.

6. Find Galaxy Gear using Samsung Galaxy Note 3
With your galaxy note 3 you can find your Galaxy Gear if you are unable to find it. This trick will prove useful when your Galaxy Gear is lying nearby to you but is hidden. To find your Galaxy Gear via Galaxy Note 3 follow the steps below.

• Tap ‘Apps’ on the home screen and open ‘Gear Manager’ on your note 3.


• In ‘Gear Manager’ click on ‘Find my Gear’.


• Now click ‘Start’ to remotely enable the sound and turn on the display of Galaxy Gear. Galaxy Note 3 will automatically search for your Galaxy Gear.


• When found your Galaxy Gear will make a sound and display will turn on automatically.

After finding your Gear tap ‘Stop’.

7. Make Calls from Samsung Galaxy Gear
With Galaxy Gear you can make voice calls. Just use S Voice feature and say ‘Call contact name’. This voice command will automatically dial the phone number of that contact. To activate S Voice double press home/power key on your Gear smartwatch, or follow the steps below.

• Drag or slide the screen from right to left unless you see ‘Contacts’ option.


• Now tap on contacts to access contact list.


• Select the contact name and tap on it.


• When you the number tap on it to make voice call in Galaxy Gear.

1.- Will have to follow the tutorial Manual LGFlashtool, here one is Spanish with pictures and everything, here hyelton LG G2 Stock Firmware (Go Back to Stock)
2.- Download the ROM TOT JB for your phone model: http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2
3.- Turn on the phone in mode Downloader, (Vol+ & USB to PC)
4.- Connect the phone to the USB port and start the downgrade
5.- When finished it will skip this message on the phone:

"Enter the PIN/password to decrypt"

There I was wrong, and I didn't know that, but I think that it must be the password for your Gmail account
As I have said, I'm wrong, because I turned off the phone, then I had to activate the keyboard from the status bar, enter Hidden Menu (in my case I have a D802 - 3845#*802#) and do a Factory Reset.

I'm not sure if it will erase everything by typing the correct code, including the SD, but when in doubt and always before flashing I recommend BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP...

Now you can already root install modified Recovery and install KK rooted from Recovery

[GUIDE] FIX: There is no PIT Partition topic

This is a guide for those who are experiencing the problem 'There is no Pit Partition' while flashing with Odin. This problem may be caused because of a faulty USB/micro USB port, USB cable which results in connection problems during flashing. So first of all one should understand this process is Extremely Risky and should proceed only if its that much necessary.

For this process what you need is a .PIT file for Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 and the original STOCK firmware. PIT (Partition Information Table) files provide information about where each partitions are to be flashed, so an improper PIT file will brick your phone permanently.

PIT file for Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos is provided in the attachment, and extract the .pit from the rar.

Follow these steps :

1. Run Odin with Administrator Privileges. Hope everyone is familiar with using Odin or See this
2.Connect your Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 inn Download Mode (HOLD Volume Down+Home Button+Power) and see phone gets detected by Odin.
3. Click on the PIT Button in Odin and select the .pit file you have downloaded.
4. Click on PDA, and Browse for the original Stock Firmware File of Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082.
5. Ensure that The Checkboxes Auto Reboot, Re-Partition, F. Reset Time are checked.

7. Wait for the process to complete, keep the phone untouched until you see PASS.
8. Switch ON the phone and Play!!

[GUIDE] Recover Notification from Nandroid topic

Have you ever installed a new rom, but completely forgot which notification sound you were using? I have a nandroid backup of the old rom, but really don't want to completely restore the rom just to figure out which sound I was using. Android stores this in a database, and I'll show you how to access that database. In hindsight, it may just be easier to restore the nandroid backup. But, this is how to do it using a nandroid backup.

I'll be using Ubuntu 12.04 to do this. I believe it can be done with Windows as well, though the commands and programs will differ. Again, this assumes that you don't remember what the filename was. If you do, you can just skip to step 7.

1. Copy your nandroid backup files to your computer. Specifically, the "data.ext4.tar" and any "data.ext4.tar.a", "data.ext4.tar.b", etc. files.

2. The files need to be combined together. Use the command "cat data.ext4.tar data.ext4.tar.a data.ext4.tar.b > data-combined.tar" or similar for your filenames. It combines all of your data.ext4.tar files into one new file, data-combined.tar. This should give you a working tar file. I got this step from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2194171.

3. Extract the data-combined tar file. If you're a super-cool linux hacker, you probably know some terminal command to do this, like tar -randomLettersHere (xzvf?). I just right clicked the tar file and selected "Extract Here".

4. Navigate to "./data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db" and open the file. I didn't have any program to read SQL databases, so I let Ubuntu installed the recommended one for me, called "Sqliteman".

5. Using the list on the left, go under Tables-System. You should see the contents of that table, which look like an excel spreadsheet. The row (or tuple) we're looking for has the field "name" equal to "ringtone" or "notification_sound", depending on which file you're trying to locate. You can scroll through the rows and look for those rows, or you can enter an SQL command in the top box and hit the green arrow to run it and filter just the ones we want. Try this-

This pulls up all the rows where "name" is exactly equal to either of those strings. You can also search for anything that contains those strings by using this syntax-

(That pulled up the actual file for me under the name "ringtone_CONSTANT_PATH")

If you're using a different rom than that I was (or a different device), you might need to tweak what you look for. Try changing the strings you search for. What we're looking for is for the entry where "value" equals something like "content://media/internal/audio/media/238". It might have the word 'internal' instead of 'external'. Note that number at the end, which is some kind of media ID number.

6. Now, open the SQL file "./data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases/external.db" or "./data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases/internal.db" depending on whether the value in step 5 had the word internal or external. Find the row where "_id" equals the number at the end of your "value" string in step 5. You can scroll through the "files" table, or enter a query like this-

The field "_data" should show the path for your file. For me, it was "/system/media/audio/notifications/S_Dew_drops.ogg". Oh, how I love you, Touchwiz...

7. Now you know where the file is. If your new rom doesn't have that ringtone/notification sound any more, you can probably retrieve it from two places. First, check the rom installation zip file (probably the easiest way) if it was an included sound. Open the installation zip file, and look in the path you found in step 6. The second way is to go through your Nandroid backup. Follow steps 1-3, but copy, combine, and extract your system.ext4.tar file(s). Again, just look in the same path from step 6, and it should be there. These paths are typically "/system/media/audio/notifications/" and "/system/media/audio/ringtones".

Enjoy your old, familiar sound again!

Since i first installed Instagram i had troubles uploading videos, recorded with Insta app and loaded from gallery, with both ROMs I used ( stock Samsung and current one OmniROM )


I read this is a very common problem and no, it isnt Instagram app error but ROM fault as many Nexus5/other phones can upload videos (read in internet)


follow these steps to prepare your video:

1. Record your favourite video with you camera, MAX ALLOWED TIME 15s for Instagram


2. Instagram accepts only two sizes: 480x480 - 680x680. If it is bigger it will zoom it in center to fit it needs, so take it in account when editing video, for example i recorded a full hd video with my S3 and then i edited it to 720x720 adding black borders.


3. Rotate your video 90° degrees anti-clockwise (Instagram seems to rotate video on upload)


4. MP4 video format

time to open Instagram! :

1. Open Instagram app


2. Record about 20s of video


3. Press HOME button, leaving Instagram app opened in background


4. Go to sdcard/Android/data/com.instagram.android/files/video/random_named_folder/your_just_recorded_video.mp4 - that's the folder where Instagram save your just recorded video


5. Copy in this folder your video you want to upload


6. Rename your video with the Instagram created one and then delete Instagram video


7. Resume from background Instagram


8. Press right upper corner blue arrow and then you'll see your video in preview!!

Some side notes: On OmniROM it doesnt work, everytime Instagram crashes, so you have to use another/stock rom. I used FreeMake "Free Video Converter" to adapt my S3 full hd video to Instagram format. I first made it 15s long by selecting only part i wanted to upload. Then i created under Convert->Android label a new custom profile with: MP4 - 720x720 - Cropping style: Original - other fields default. Then i converted my video and did steps i just wrote. If you dont like Instagram video preview just play a bit with resolution/cropping way in Video Converter, i just wrote what i used :)





At least we have a working way until rom devs fix your current rom :)

REQUIREMENTS
Root
Root file explorer like es file manager or root explorer

INSTRUCTIONS
1.Download any fonts which you like

2.We need two font files, one for BOLD and another one for REGULAR.So if you download two different fonts for BOLD and REGULAR, that's fine.or if you need same font for both bold and regular, copy the downloaded font and paste it there(so it will be like "copy of *****.ttf)

3.Rename one file as "SoMABold" without quotes (if you downloaded different BOLD font then rename that BOLD file)

4.Rename other file as "SoMARegular" without quotes(if you downloaded different REGULAR font then rename that REGULAR file)

5.Now go to system/fonts and paste both files (SoMABold and SoMARegular) and set permission as rw- r-- r--

6.Reboot your device

done.

Hello everyone...I want to share a guide on how to extract system files from FTF!...You may find many guide out there on how to extract system files but it is not updated...I will use a latest version of flashtool to extract the system files so the method is different and you can't extract xperia l system.sin if you use the old flashtool (v0.9.10.1 or lower)

Requirements:

1.A brain [IMPORTANT]
2.Latest version of Flashtool Here
3.Android EXT4 unpacker Here
4.7zip Here

First,extract system.sin from FTF using 7zip.


second,open flashtool,goto tools>sin editor then select the system.sin that you have extracted from FTF and click extract data.


third,you will have system.ext4 after extracted the system.sin.Open Android EXT4 Unpacker and select system.ext4.


finally,click extract on any files that you want to extract and choose the directory where you want to save the extracted files.


You can find the extracted files in the directory that you choose.


That's it! Now you can extract/view all the system files that you want! :D
