Ideally, I want to be running the latest TouchWiz, and it would be great to get rid of some bloatware.

Before you even read this, please understand that I am a little frustrated with this entire situation and that I have spent hours upon hours of my life trying to figure this all out. I traded an iPhone 5 mid-September of 2013 for a pristine S4 - the owner of which used it in a few videos on his channel in YouTube. He said that it was rooted, but mentioned absolutely nothing about it having an unlocked bootloader. I vaguely remember him mentioning something about resetting it (keep in mind that however he went about this reset his very unusual porn collection was unscathed). From the day I got this phone the goodies in the About device section have remained exactly the same.

As far as the root goes, I don't think it is really there. I have used a few apps to check it, and it isn't being detected. I can't update to a newer firmware on my phone. FML!

Should I go ahead and follow the stickied guide here or do I need to take some alternate route? I just want to be able to run the latest firmware, and if I can work some nifty rooting magic after that to flash a TW rom to get rid of the bloatware? To my understanding MF3 means I can't use custom roms, which is fine with me, I like TW. :P

[Q] SW2 not as waterproof as what it says it is, what should i do? topic

It was raining quite heavily in the weekend and I was wearing my SW2 and the charging cover was firmly pressed in as I always make sure it is after every time I charge it and it got a bit wet and seemed to be working fine during the weekend after it had gotten wet but today I noticed that the top half of the screen isn't responding pretty much at all and I can very very rarely pull down the notification bar or swipe the screen using the top half of the display but I am able to press the icons in that part. I also noticed the light sensor has little bubbles of moisture in it. Would I be able to claim it under warranty seeing it is meant to be IP57 and should have been able to be worn in the rain?

So my HTC Blackstone is going crazy.I changed battery & touch screen and after that cam went crazy.I saw all kinds of colou's on cam but that's not a problem because I use it rarely.What bothers me is that I locked myself out of it.I was setting up screen password early in morning and I don't know what did I typed in.How can I solve this???
I'm thinking to flash it but when I was looking at flashing instructions I saw that I need to Sync it with my computer in Windows Mobile Device Center.But I cant sync it since I cant log into the system.I installed all drivers on my PC and when I connect it via USB it detects it automatically.
I wanted to reset HTC to factory defaults but I cant I did Hard Reset but when I do it I come to that 3 color screen and cant go further than that.
When HTC is disconnected and I'm in 3 color screen on the bottom it says "Serial",when I connect it to USB it says USB.
So basically I'm stuck and I need advice,what to do???
Can I flash it without sync it with Windows Mobile Device Center???
Or is there other way around this problem!

A bit confused as to which version I should have topic

I had this device for only 2 weeks so I'm a bit confused as to which version I should have. By doing a little research I'm guessing .290 is the old version and .136 is the new version.

But why does my phone say I'm running 290 but yet I'm on the the latest 4.3 (^_-) also I noticed on the display options screen I don't have white balance should I have that?

XT912 - Camera and Headphone Jack Not Working - Should do Factory Reset? topic

My motorola xt912's headphone Jack and Camera does not work. This happened after doing a system update a while back. I have read that I have to do a factory reset to get it back to the original software.

However, my phone is unlocked. I took it in to get it done and that store no longer exists. So I would not be able to unlock it again (for the Canadian Network). Would resetting it to factory settings get rid of the "unlock"?

[Q] Should I root? topic

Hey guys. After updating to 4.3 android I have to root my device again. But there is only hard way to do this. I have to unlock bootloader (I don't want to do this, what if I brick my phone up?) then do other hard things.

And I don't know. Should I do this, or wait for easy root method, like we had for 4.1? Also I heard that new firmware 12.1.A.1.195 is going to come out, after I update to that firmware I will have to root again, right?

So please give me suggestions, also which one is safest way to unlock BL and then root the device

Should I upgrade my hboot? topic

I am on rumrunner hboot 1.55.5555.

I have been having some strange problems, and am wondering if my hboot could be the source. I think it is the only part of the firmware I haven't flashed trying to fix things. The main problem I am having is no service on non-sense roms. It started when I flashed ViperOne, with a full wipe, coming from Noctournal GE. I flashed back to a stock based ROM, and service is back. But I can no longer flash non-sense roms and have functioning service.

I flashed OMJ's modified firmware and twrp 2.6.3.4, then did a full wipe - didn't fix anything. Tried to RUU - it says "The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again." When the utility showed the old and new baseband [?] numbers before it tried to flash, they were the same.

I am about to flash the unmodified firmware in the hopes that it will fix something, will report my findings. If anyone could steer me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it! :highfive:

Should I warranty or try another ROM? topic

I bought my n7 LTE in early December 2013. I'm running Sinless ROM on it. Today these spots showed up on the screen. What do you recommend? Warranty with Google or ASUS or try another ROM first to see if it goes away? Crap, tried to show a screenshot but the spots dont show. I'll see if I can get a pic from my phone of it.




The pink dots are not reflection from background light. Any ideas?

Which phone should I buy? topic

With a small budget of 200 dollars which should I get? I was going to spend it on the optimus g but the 200 dollars price bumped up to almost 300. Spec wise, the moto g was my secondary choice but the lack of micro sd card slot is putting me off. Another, less popular phone, the optimus f7 has pretty good specs with a 720p screen and micro sd card slot. I don't plan on using custom roms. Only rooting. What do you guys think?

Someone offered my their HTC One for my Nexus 5.

I feel like accepting because despite the guaranteed updates I want extra features without rooting my device.

I checked out the specification differences and the only big difference is the processor speed is slightly slower but I don't mind.

Any additional thoughts?

Hey everyone! First of all I didn't see a Q&A forum so if this is in a bad spot sorry about that.

So I have been wanting to get a smartwatch and i have been stuck on deciding between the Sony smartwatch 2 and the Pebble Steel.
I have been looking everywhere, reading and watching reviews, but no one ever gives a good opinion on which is better. It seems like they end up weighing them out as even. For the Sony sw2 with the metal wristband it is currently 9 with free shipping. The Pebble Steel is 9 with free shipping that takes several weeks (so the site says) and may include import taxes.

I am currently using a Nexus 4, enjoy some small development, mainly looking for practical use, with a nice look.

Currently I am leaning towards the pebble steel. I don't know guys. Please share some of your opinions and thoughts, it would be appreciated!

What should I do with this blacklisted phone? topic

Long story short, this kid I know found an Optimus L5 outside, last summer I think, and instead of reporting it, he kept it. He used it for some time until the phone got blacklisted here in Europe. He gave it to me now. It is already blacklisted, so it can not be used as a phone. What should I do with it? Should I take it to the police? Or if I keep it, then can someone track it if I use GPS or WiFi? I already put new firmware on it, if that helps.

So we are in 2014 in case alot of you haven't noticed. I just read a report how banking apps on Android are more vulnerable that Apple's (watch-out it's gonna be Apple's new selling point), but for obvious reasons I understand why (say FREEDOM!). Anyways...should everyone now be required to be running an antivirus just like is a MUST to be running one on our Windows platform, or is it still early to worry about that?
