Multi user crash on custom 4.4.2 roms (CM11, Omnirom) topic

Hello,

I've tried both nightly and snapshot versions of CM11 on my Nexus 10. I have also tried the nightly version of Omnirom.

All gave me problems with multi users: I've created 2 more users (one normal, one restricted), but when I tried to switch to one of the users, I got error messages of system apps crashing - launcher crashed, system UI crashed, etc.

Multi user work fine on stock 4.4.2 rom (rooted), I've also tried the deodexed stock rom published here, and it also work. But for some reason it doesn't work for me on CM11 or Omnirom...

Is this a known issue? Is there something I can do in order to make it work?
Can someone who uses these roms test it and tell me if you also have issues with multi users?

Any help would be appreciated!

[Q] New Gear User: Can't find installed apps topic

Hi XDA, I'm new to the gear and new to the forum. I just followed a guide on how to sideload apps using ADB. I am able to successfully install these apps, but am not able to see them on the list of apps on my phone or on my Gear when they are paired. If I disconnect the gear from my phone and reset the gear, I'm able to see these apps. Does anybody have any idea?

I also installed NOVA and then changed the default of the home button to always be touchwiz (since I want my Gear to be more like a watch and not a mini tablet), but have no way to go to Nova unless I disconnect and reset my Gear. Any ideas or help? Thanks.

[Q] New Z1 user looking to root / flash, etc topic

Evening all.

Have just upgraded my phone to a Z1, C6903 running 4.3

Im looking to root this, mainly as I want to access my SD card over WiFi.

I have rooted my old HTC OneX, my old LG Nexus 4, and many other phones before however the guides for this phone seem a lot more complex, so;

I guess my question is, Is there a way that anyone knows of mounting the SD card to my PC or MAC via WiFi without rooting or ;

Are there any step by step rooting guides (not bothered about flashing a custom rom, just obtaining root)?

[MULTI USER] Multiple users on your phone topic

Okay guys, we can work with multiple users on this device.

Before we begin, here's what you need:
1- Root access granted
2- Terminal Emulator [from Google play] OR adb enabled
3- Busybox installed [increases the range of commands accepted by the emulator]

Now open Terminal Emulator, and type these codes to see the maximum users allowed

su getprop fw.max_users

It would show 1

To change the maximum users allowed, type

Quote:

su setprop fw.max_users <your required number>

Mine is 4.

To create a user, type

Quote:

su pm create-user <username>

To remove a user, type

Quote:

su pm remove-user <usernumber>

NOTE:- the primary user number is 0. The users you have created would have numbers from 1 and onwards.

If you want to change the user names after creation, go to [B]/data/system/users/userX.xml
here X is the user number, from 0 and onwards.
0 is the primary user.

SECURITY NOTE:
The second user can still access your messages, contacts, etc. It's best if you set a lock screen password on your own user, and select another launcher for the second user, hide all the sensitive applications using some application hider.

If you are on the second user, most of the data from the primary user is hidden (you can not acces it).
For example:
- photos
- unlocked levels in Angry Birds
- music
- contacts
- google account
- clipboard
- home screen

But there are a few exceptions:
- all the apps are there, as if they were just installed
- the recent apps menu
- the use-app-as-default-setting (I don't know the official name). For example: if you set Apex as default in the Guest account, it will also be default in the primary account.
- your messages!!

(i9500) Increase available user storage space? topic

Hi guys, I'm new to this i9500 development section as my previous
device was galaxy s1 i9000. The i9000 cm 10 or cm 10 based
roms had 2 different partitions which increased available user
storage.
I understand the i9500 user available space is reduced
significantly due to the way it's partitioned so even if I uninstall
bloatware in the/system partition, the available user space will
hardly be affected since it's in the /data partition.
So I wanted to know if the partition is resized or if it can be
resized in cm11 or sammy based roms so as to increase the user storage
space available.

[Q] New Droid Maxx User, a bit confused..... topic

I just purchased a new Droid Maxx and I'm finding it a bit confusing here at XDA. Per System Panel app (Because it's not listed in the "About Phone" section of the settings), I have model XT1080.

1) Is the "Droid Maxx" the same as "Droid Razr Maxx"?
2) This phone has been great out of the box (since bloatware can be disabled), so has rooting/custom ROM use been favorable for most?
3) I don't see a "Droid Maxx" section here at XDA, so it appears that I would follow the "Ultra" section for development info?

Hope these don't seem to be stupid questions but I've had a rooted Dinc2 for a while and have used this site for everything and it has been great. Just some incredible minds and resources here. I just want to make sure I'm going to the right place and wanted some feedback on rooting it.

New User. Rooted. Questions. Need help topic

I'm new to this forum, and to android since moving over from iphone. I rooted my kyocera hydro edge on boost mobile (4.1.2 jellybean) with framaroot 1.6.1 following the instructions and everything went fine. SuperSu updated after installation. I am trying to move applications to the sd card. I downloaded FolderMount (and a number of other apps that claim to move apps2SD but don't work) and FolderMount only sees what is on the SD Card, not internal storage. Why is this? How can I move apps to my SD Card? Since I am new, are there any suggestions more experienced user might have?

[TUTORIAL]How to reinstall user apps (Quickly/Safely) topic

This was created in response to several people asking the safest way to reinstall user apps after flashing a ROM. Titanium Backup is a great tool, but not everyone uses/likes it.

As the title implies, this will show you an easy and safe way to reinstall your apps after a clean ROM flash. I made this easy to do and easy to understand, so experts and new users can figure it out.

YOU WILL OBVIOUSLY NEED TO BE ROOTED FOR THIS.

To do this you will need 3 or 4 things things on your phone.

1. Download the attached file below named "AppBackup.zip". This is the file structure to correctly flash user apps. I built it to only install apps in /data/app. More advanced users may edit it to include system files, but that is beyond the scope of this tutorial (for now).

2. From the Play Store, install a file explorer with root access capability. For this tutorial, I will be using ES File Explorer. (ROOT REQUIRED)

3. From the Play Store, install ZArchiver. this app creates zip and other format archive files.

4. (Optional) From the Play Store, install ZipSigner. This app signs the zip file.

New Note 3 user topic

Well I figure I'd check in over here since I picked up a new/used Note 3. Bought it off a guy on craigslist for 0, original box and a new Otter Box Defender. Still have my S4 but I figure for the price I'll give it a go. Don't plan on rooting it, I rooted my S4 and damn, I couldn't stay on the same rom for more than a few days.

Like the Otter Box but hate the belt clip, gotta have a belt clip holster so I picked up the one at Best Buy made by Seidio. I think BB calls it the Platinum series case, love that style for work but I think if I keep the Note I'll order the Seidio Dilex case with holster. Also ordered the Nillkin 9H Hardness Tempered Glass Front Screen Protector, should be here on Thursday.

Now off to You Tube for some video training on this S-Pen.

Ordered an X during the sale yesterday to replace my S3. Was wondering if there is a way to root that retains all OTA functionality. I've heard that it's pretty solid stock so I probably won't be flashing any roms. Just want to keep using TiBU and other apps that require root..

Hello i have a G2 and i also rooted it and have a hotspot mod on it but was wondering about the new update "Va being released i know i cannot update due to me being rooted, but will there be a stock rooted version of the new software and will i be able to install it via flashify? As Steven's pointed out, this looks more like a Windows permissions
issue. However, it would still be worth identifying what's going on, as
I haven't run Python on a 2012 box (and I doubt if many other people
have either). I'm getting a VM run up to try it out but that will take a

It may be that some hardened security is preventing Python from reading
its own files. Could you, please, do the simplest of imports which

How can I let my user create a shortcut to an app, into my app (like a launcher)? topic

I can't for the life of me find ANYTHING written about how to create a shortcut to an app. All over stackoverflow it's just about having ones app get created as a shortcut onto users own launcher.

I want the user to be able to click my button which opens a dialog, in where the user can then select an app of their choosing, rename the shortcut and lastly hit the "Ok" button which should then let that app sit in my apps fragment until the user decides to remove it.

How would I go about doing this?
