Can someone tell me how to make a rectangle indicator that shows the state of certain things.

For example, Red = off, Green = On

I want this for:

Wi-fi
Bluetooth
Cell Data
NFC
Charging

I think its possible but could not find a post that gives an example of the text/parameters.

[Q] Low signal and Wifi topic

Well I've just installed Purity Rom on my Nexus 5.
I notice that my signal is on about 2 stripes, which is really wierd! on my old SGS 2 it used
to be 5 all the time.
Also, my wifi signal is pretty low from the same room where the router is! something is really wierd.
My wifi downloads at about 25kb/s from the play store, which is wierd because it should get to about 2mb/s.
Should I switch Kernel/Modem? if so to which one/s?

Hi guys. Ive been reading a lot about this one. And i find it very imposible to do right now. I saw some thread here regarding to this one that im posting right now. So my main concern is is there a way to downgrade this kitkat into jellybean? Put aside note 3 for now. Does it work on other phones as well? Because i really dont like the new kitkat and i want to go back from 4.3. Yeah yeah i did some research regarding to this because of the new bootloader. Unable to do Factory reset on Shpongle Rom topic

Hi, I am unable to perform a factory reset on my HTC One v running Shpongle rom.
I went to setting -> Backup and reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset phone
Then i click Erase everything, but nothing happens :(

I can't format my device I enter recovery --> advanced wipe check all things and when he comes to wiping data he restart. Is memory dead ? I still have warranty, but custom recovery is on it, and custom ROM, what to do ?

I tried to wipe one by one and he only restarts on data when data is trying to be wiped.

[Q] Problems with CM 10.1 superuser topic

I have a plain vanilla CM10.1 on my HD+. The included CM File Manager runs fine with root privilege. I've also installed a newer version of Jackpal's Term (terminal emulator) which runs fine as well with root.

However, the current version of ES File Manager will not run with root privilege. When I try to activate this, I just get the message "Sorry, test failed." Interestingly, the app is visible in Settings>Superuser as "allowed", but it still fails to acquire root. (I already uninstalled and reinstalled ES File Manager a couple of times with no success.)

Additionally, another app I tried to install (SambaDroid) gets denied root by the CM Superuser app without me even being able to say yes or no.

So something is not working as it should be...?

[Q] Cant turn on my phone topic

Guys, last night I try to install custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2555186 and I suppose so that i made a mistake. Ok that is not an issue, my problem is that after failed installation of that rom, I couldn't use my phone any more.
First of all I don't understand how I bypass to see that my battery percentage is 17%, second thing is that before I went to bed I put my phone to recharge and I see red light (blink). I woke up this morning and I couldn't see green light, i couldn't see any light. I try to turn on my phone but I cant do that..DEAD. I connect my phone with recharge and after 5 minutes I see red light blinking. That continues for about 35 minutes, red light blink all the time. After one hour I try to turn on my phone and that was successful. I put my phone in bootloader (fastboot) and try to go to recovery, but its stock to the welcome screen. I wait 5 min. and nothing change, I hold power and volume button and again I go to bootloader, then I go to TURN OFF PHONE (or something like that), then my phone restart, I do this 2 times and after that I turn it off definitely. I put recharger again and 5 minutes I couldn't see any light(red or green), after that period I can see red light blinking. And its blinking right now, 40 minutes after I start recharging my phone. I try just now to turn if on - nothing, to go into bootloader - nothing , just wait for red light(blinking) for about 30 sec.


Can any one help?

I have bought my GS4 from a small store in my country and not from the importer back in July.
I saw that the latest update for the device was out and tried to update it in the device it self and it didn't work.

VZW XT1060 - No longer able to save APNs on KK topic

This is no good. I popped in my T-Mobile SIM into my Verizon Moto X, and while the option to add an APN is there, it will NOT save. This happened after the KitKat update as on JB, I could manually add APNs and use T-Mo's service.

Disappointed. Any way to get around this?

Slides to digital topic

I have about 300 slides I want to scan and store on the Mac.

I've tried two slide scanners both of which used MediaImpressions
software, and the results were disappointing.

I can get them done professionally, but at .50 pence a slide the total
cost would be £150, and I can't afford it.

My Canon scanner doesn't have a slide scanner attachment, so I'm
stymied.

Can anyone on this NG suggest a way of doing the task without spending a
fortune on it.

[Q] Xperia S Compatible Battery topic

Hi guys,

Im in search of ways of improving the battery life of my Xperia S. and now I have an Idea, but dont actually know if it will work properly.
so here is my idea. what if I use a standard Xperia Z battery which has 2330mah in place of BA800? here's the pic of both batteries.




looking at these two pictures, you will say, they mount to the phones differently, and the size are different anyway. but, what if the xperia Z battery is smaller than BA800 and can get in in the battery slot of the Xperia S(even though not perfect)? if it does and be able to get in, connecting the leads may not be that hard to do, I think.

anyway, my question is, if I use a higher capacity battery, will it be safe? will the charging capacity that the motherboard has be able to support the requirement of the battery?

(oh and sorry if my question is a little weirdly-put, an xda newb in the flesh, and my first post :fingers-crossed: )

In brief, I had recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S II i9100 from overseas, but as i was overseas I had no sim card and the phone was in aeroplane mode for about a month and a half. while overseas I had flashed many kernels and ROMs, but when I arrived home a few days ago, I had realised my phone wasn't receiving service or reception. at the time I was running a carbon ROM nightly (android 4.3.1), now I have switched over to beanstalk 4.4.2, and I am receiving the same issue, and when I try to flash a different modem/radio in CWM, it always appears with either "error with zip" or "status 7".
When I type *#*#4643#*#* and try to turn the radio on and off, the radio does not turn on or off!

I have changed my sim card with a new one and had fully recharged it too, but on other phones it works, on mine it does not.

1) What would be the cause of the issue?
2) What would be the best way to solve it?
3) Could it be because i bought it from another country?
4) Could it be a hardware problem?

What the he.. is wrong with the camera on my Sony Xperia Z?
Any picture take with the flash is ugly, grainy and way too bright and bland. Pictures taken without the flash are just ugly and grainy. It doesn't really seem to matter what setting I use or if I use Superior Auto or not.

Did Sony just totally mess up 4.3? Looking at older pictures, they seem fine to me.

[Q] Update.zip basics topic

I have managed to create simple "update.zip" files. From what I understand, the text script "updater-script" uses commands found in a binary file, "update-binary". The way I understand it, if I use a command like "ui_print()" then this command is present inside that binary file. As I have copied this binary file off something else, I have no idea what is inside of it. Is there a way to either make this binary file, or obtain a "generic" binary file that has all its commands listed/documented?

Failing to Flash ROM. (Status errors) topic

So here I am again, after a while.
Have changed like hundred of ROMs about year ago on Galaxy S III and Galaxy S II, it was still time when newest android version was 4.1.2 i think.

So now i have a problem, big one. I bought Galaxy S II again, and wanted to flash new rom, because version that i had was 4.1.2.
It was horrible, i effd up my phone big time and flashed stock rom trough Odin, now its 4.0.3. It's old like my granny, but it's very fast. I'm spending like only 38% of my RAM.

But still i wanted to change ROM, and put on the new 4.4.2, but only that kind which don't takes more than 50% of ram.

I Have tried to flash any of the ROMs trough CMW recovery with the kernel i have now, but still i got Failed to install update. Some kind of e:emmc (Status 7 error), i tried to fix it, fixed. But now I had Status 6 error. It seems that i can't open the update (ROM).

So i'm asking for help. Maybe some1, could give me the right ROM, right KERNEL and RECOVERY. and step-by-step guide to avoid those errors and fails.

I'm sorry if i'm posting new thread, but i can't really find and answer to my question and problem. I would be greatful if someone could just help me and guide trough this problem, if not here, then maybe in PM.

After so many tries, I went in to ROM Manager (where it tells me there is no available version for my P920 and specified as manually installed 3x+. Now my phone won't start. I press the power button, the LG logo appears for half a second, then it shuts down. Guess I'll have to reflash it with the LG Recovery tool...

ModemStatsService draining battery topic

It's been talked about on this forum a few times, but I still don't know the answer.

I have Tesco UK edition and when I check my battery stats, it shows, that 35 % of the batery is used by "screen" (of course) and another 40 % is by ModemStatsService .. the rest is just low % .. but I wonder what this ModemStatsService is, what it does and why it uses my battery more than the screen itself. I can force stop the process, but after few hours it restarts itself again. I wouldnt care about that if it werent using my battery even more than the screen.

[Q] Advantage of Location battery saving setting? topic

As far as I can see, the only advantage to the location battery saving mode is that it deactivates your device's GPS. If that's the only savings, then I tend to just leave it on its high accuracy setting. It's sort of a pain to be reminded of this when flipping on the maps or navigation apps which require GPS. And, I don't have that take over the GPS in rogue fashion. Are there other advantages of the location battery saving mode besides simply deactivating GPS?

So now i want to go Back 2 Stock and let the Phone repair or something in a Vodafone store , do u think they will restore it despite the relocked bootloader ?

Now that you have downloaded both of

go to Settings->
Developer options->
Check USB Debugging .
Again go to Settings->
Security-> Check
Unknown Sources.
Now Turn off your
Antivirus because it
sometimes conflicts in
between the process.
You can activate it
again after the rooting
process is complete.
Now connect your
Xperia E to PC and open
AdbDriverInstaller .
Click on Install.
This software
automatically
downloads all the
drivers you need. Close
the installer after the
driver installation is
done.
Open Impactor.zip and
click on Impactor.exe
You will see the a small
window which is shown
below and click Start to
begin the rooting
process.
Now your phone is
rooted ( Max
30seconds ).:(:)
You need to manually
download SuperSU from
playstore after
performing above
steps.

and my razr always hot, warm enough in the back side and the touchscreen also get hot. I just use the phone to use socmed apps (instagram, path, bbm, whatsapp) and brows the web, but not gaming. at all.
i just use 5-10 min, and get hot.

I tried use CM11, slimkat, mokee, and any kexec rom. it's hot too.
i tried custom stock rom JB 4.1.2, and it runs great, but getting hot too.
my question is:
1. is there any relation my problem with the stock rom? so, which version should I try to flash via RSD?


if it can be solved by flash another firmware, let me know. if not, tomorrow i'll try to go to service centre. it's still in warranty

I downloaded a project from GitHub. After that I selected a gradle.build file to open the project in Android Studio.

Block Ads on Surface! :D topic

Ok, so disclaimer: this isn't the same as Ad Block, some ads will slip through, and there will probably be IE error messages popping up.

However, if you despise adverts and are ready to give feedback, this does block many ads.
So, what we're doing is editing Windows' built-in hosts file to block these addresses at the source.

First, download the hosts file attached here.
Then, browse to "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" and rename "hosts" to "hosts.old"
Then copy and paste the file you downloaded into the folder, making sure there is no file extension (go to View>show/hide file extensions)

Next, open CMD as admin (start>cmd>right click>run as admin)
Type "net stop dnscache" and hit enter.
After a couple minutes that'll finish.
Type "sc config dnscache start= disabled"

Reboot your Surface (or other device)

You're now (mostly) ad-free! Let me know what you think, and what effects this has on page load speed. (negligible to me, but I'm on a high-speed, slow connections would most benefit.) :good:

Can anyone help. I am wanting put Android 4.4 kitkat on my Lg g2 D802 (which i think was on EE, T-mobile) . I've tried cynamod as it's the most popular and a couple of others, but they all seem to want use the SD CARD of the phone. The G2 has not got a slot for that and from what i've read on some models there is a partition type thing on the fixed memeory. I don't have that and can't find a way round it. Does anyone know of an alternitive i can use.

I would like to flash the newest Android Revolution HD 51 to try out the new HTC kit Kat and i heard the Rom is excellent.
I got the ARHD51 file, copied to internal SD, booted into recovery, factory reset wipe and followed the Aroma as usual, only chose to
install gApps and unchecked the rest, aroma gave me a success notification and asked me to reboot.
I performed another cache dalvik wipe to be sure, but the device is stuck on the Beats screen and I had to restore.

I have just installed the cm-11-20131226-UNOFFICIAL-p990 custom rom on my LG P990
what is running great. But I have some notice what I would like to share.
First of all the camera is blinking and sometimes goes to upside down when moves fast the screen.
There are two phone icon in the settings menu.
And how can I setup the button lights to change the its colors how I setup that ?
These are things what I noticed about this rom.
Can somebody help me with a gapps install to fix these problems?

[q] stuck in odin mode, help! topic

so i flashed my samsung galaxy s3 SGH-I747 with a wrong firmware, it might be bricked but im hoping its not.
After trying to flash with odin, it failed and not im stuck in the (press volume down, center key and power key) mode.
heres what is says from top to bottom:

if i power off and power again with (press volume down, center key and power key) i get back to the same screen as above except i get the android guy icon and says download in progress.

tried kies but all versions say "not compatible"
tried recovery mode in kies but device doesn't show
tied to flash on odin with stock firmware but now odin doesn't recognize device. tired uninstalling and reinstalling samsung usb driver, different ports, restart laptop.

im at a lost now and need further guadiance

WOL for Android and Proxy for ethernet topic

Hi

I have an Android box running 4.2.2 ICS

Just wondered, I would like to be able to remotely wake it from a sleep state with a PC (similar to a PC wake on lan command) - had a search but cant find anything, is there such a thing available?

Also, it has an ethernet port that I would like to use to connect to the outside world via a proxy but there are no proxy settings for the ethernet. Setting the proxy in the WiFi dosnt work for ethernet and the apps I've tried (proxy droid etc) only work with WiFi connections too. Anyone found a solution to this please?

[Q] [HELP] Phone Soft Bricked, no tool working topic

Well, let me explain what happens...

I have an LG Optimus G, which I've rooted. I wanted to install CWM, but I didn't read at the tutorial that this wouldn't work with the bootloader locked. I restarted the phone and it tells me a "Secure Booting Error".

I can access Download Mode, and there I've tried the LG Mobile Support Tool, which always tells me that "Battery is low". I've tried unplugging the battery, but the same. If I could bypass this error, probably I could have again my phone alive. I tried using also the FlashTool, but it says the kdz is corrupt (>1GB) and when doing a test upgrade, it shows again the battery trouble.

What should I do? Shall I buy a new battery? Or is there any other method to bypass this message?
